poem || Peter Sherburn-Zimmer

What Happens to Tomorrow

DNA squandered:
Cafe full of soccer fans.

His friends are all frozen:
The church shines its steeple
Toward the coming storm.

Windows blurred by the mist in their eyes;
No way to hold a diligent conversation here.

No way to hold hands
With some prospective lovers.

It's all turning into the ching ching ching
Of the cash register dancing.
